OBAMA 08 - Feels so good

This is not an art related post. I apologize. I feel like I witnessed a historical moment today. Presidential candidate Barack Obama held a rally in Portland today. I was lucky enough to attend. I stood 20 or 30 feet from quite possibly the first African American president of the United States. It felt good. Oregon will be a deciding factor in a history making presidential race. It feels good. Over 70,000 Oregonians came to see him speak. His message seems simple. Don't lie to the people. Represent the people. Make a better America. It feels very good.

Gentlemen, Thieves and Art

Compound was broken into last night. The youngsters threw a city trash can lid through one of the front windows around 3 or 4 in the morning. They took hats and t-shirts. Obviously they are forming an after school baseball team. I breathed a sigh of relief that the art was not touched. An elderly woman brought a couple hats back this afternoon. She said two kids with a handfull of clothes dropped the hats as they passed her on the sidewalk. She now will be given the keys to the city for her good deed. She actually gave the police a really accurate description of the two people. We have been closed all day today. The last of the broken glass has been escorted to the dumpster. Back to the art........ Gentlemen of Spring is up now. The Willamette Week has a small review of Dennis Browns work in last weeks issue. Mari Kubota is now confirmed to be joining Oksana Badrak and Marie Blanco "Mijn Schatje" for our November show. Mari told me yesterday that "her baby will be coming out in June".

thats it for now

Japan 2008

Hello. Welcome to the first HI-Q-RT blog. I will attempt to keep this space up to date with information about what is happening at Compound Gallery and other art related news.

I just returned from Japan. I interviewed artists for the gallery, met artists that I have previously worked with, attended some great art shows, found new products for Compound and visited family. Japan is my home away from home. I never get tired of it's culture and people. I met some incredible people, saw some amazing art and ate fantastic food. Here is a brief run down of the trip.
Friday April 11 was the opening of the Digmeout show at the Sony building in Ginza. Good times meeting the new class of 2008.

Taniguchi san.Beth, Muneo, artist and Furitani of digmeout.
Spent some time with the SAG crew. Great bags. Nice folks.
